William L. Sparks, 92, of Marseilles, passed away Wednesday January 11, 2017, at Rivershores HealthCare and Rehabilitation Centre.

Memorial services will be 12 noon Friday January 13, at Marseilles United Methodist Church with military honors. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be later in Riverview Cemetery in Marseilles. Seals-Campbell Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Bill was born November 24, 1924, in Marseilles to Louis and Rose (Worman) Sparks. In 1949, he married Doris Kendall of Marseilles who survives.

He served in the Navy on the USS Cotton in the Pacific during WW II. He was a member of the Marseilles United Methodist Church. He had been an auto mechanic and then was employed by Union Carbide and American Hoechst until his retirement.

Bill is survived by his wife, Doris; one daughter, Martha (Paul) Davis of Hedrick, Iowa; one son, Stephen (Pat) Sparks of Emden, IL; four grandchildren, Gregory Phillips, Geoffrey Phillips, Ginnifer Smith, and Dustin Spray; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clyde and Robert; and one sister, Arla Iverson.

Memorials may be given to the Marseilles United Methodist Church.
