William J. Monroe, Jr., 88, of Marseilles, passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at his home.

William was born on December 15, 1937, in Ottawa, IL, to William J. Sr. and Evelyn (Cobler) Monroe. On April 12, 1958, he married Brenda Herbert of Chicago who survives.

He was employed by Nabisco for 35 years until his retirement. Bill spent his early years dancing with his bride, fishing with his kids and grandkids, and bowling with his buddies. Bill was a diehard Cubs fan. In his later years, he enjoyed maintaining his lawn, riding around the neighborhood on his mower to see his friends, and visiting with his best buddy, Chad. He also enjoyed watching Braxton play baseball. He dearly loved his family and was so proud of each one of them, and they dearly loved him.

Bill is survived by his wife, Brenda; his daughter, Debbie (Joey Girot) Farrell; his son, Greg W. Monroe; six grandchildren, April (Ryan) Nelle, Amy (Raja) Saleem, Kelly (Matt) Hudkins, David Monroe, Brandy (Chris) Harden, and Ryan (Melanie) Girot; his great-grandchildren, Braxton Nelle, Claira Ruiz, Salem Hudkins, Noah Saleem, Jaren Phillips, and Diego Rockford.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jerry Monroe.

We want to thank the two angels that took such wonderful care of him. Thank you Tina and Lori from all of us, you are part of our family now. Thank you to you, Chad, for being such a wonderful friend.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Seals-Campbell Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements and cremation rites.
