Viola Jane
Mosier
Oct 3, 1939 — Mar 6, 2024
Seneca
Viola Jane Mosier, 84, of Seneca, passed peacefully into the arms of her heavenly Father on
Wednesday March 6, 2024 at her home, surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 10 at Seals-Campbell Funeral Home in
Marseilles with her good friend, Pastor Philip Peterson, of Stavanger Lutheran Church
officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with a dinner
to follow at Stavanger Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Seneca at a
later date.
Viola was born in Ottawa, IL on October 3, 1939, along with her twin sister, Violet. Her
parents, Harvey T. and Violet E. (Gowin) Blue, raised her and her eleven siblings in
Marseilles, IL. She attended Marseilles Grade School and Marseilles High School, where
she was a cheerleader who happened to catch the eye of a Seneca High School basketball
player during a rivalry matchup. After a six-month courtship, when she was just 17 and he
only 19, she married the love of her life, Jack Mosier, on June 8, 1957, at the Methodist
Church in Seneca. Together, they raised three wonderful daughters.
In her life, Viola worked at a clothing factory, Seneca Grade School, and as a school bus
driver, until she retired in 2002. She described her career as being a mother and caretaker
of her family and home, and that she was. She spent sixty-seven years building a beautiful
life with a man that loved and adored her, and she him. Their daughters were her proudest
accomplishments. She raised three amazing women, who then blessed her with three
incredible sons-in-law, and then with grandchildren…eleven of them, who quickly became
the lights of her life. Great-grandchildren soon followed…twenty-two of them, and they
became her entire world. She and Jack attended as many of their games, concerts, recitals,
and events that they could fit into a day.
Viola loved to play cards, sing, dance, vacuum, and watch sports, especially the St. Louis
Cardinals. She also loved a good cup of coffee, a trip to the casino, and snuggling babies.
She enjoyed traveling, her Sunday visits to her daughters' houses, and a nice long family
bike ride on a hot summer day.
She was a loving wife, a wonderful mother, an incredible grandma, the best GiGi, and so
much more. Her presence is painfully missed, but she leaves behind a legacy of love that
will carry us through to the day we are with her again.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Jack Mosier; her daughters, Jody (Rick)
Timmons, Cheri (Bob) Higgins, and Jackie (Pat) Ugolini; a very special niece, Carolyn (Ray)
Jackson, the daughter of her twin sister; eleven grandchildren, Amanda (Brendon) Fort,
April Higgins, Abby (Jesse) Fugitt, John (Maggie) Higgins, David (Corrie) Timmons, Nic
Ugolini, Liz (Pat) Terry, Josh (Ashley) Higgins, Patrick (Alyssa) Ugolini, Becca (Nate)
"soon-to-be" Spampanato, Jonathon (Kate) Ugolini; twenty-two great-grandchildren, Brady
Fort, Adalynn Jane Fugitt, Jackson Fort, Aubry Fugitt, Jase Fugitt, Ella Timmons, Rhett
Timmons, Annabelle Ugolini, Easton Blue Terry, Aidah Terry, Peyton Fort, Jack Fugitt,
Judah Ugolini, Elsie Terry, Jacob Fort, Kellen Higgins, Ivy Timmons, Cora Viola Higgins,
Violet Joy Ugolini, Hazel Jane Ugolini, Ryne Terry, and Liv Higgins; one sister, Helen
Kolotka; one brother, Chuck Blue; three sisters-in-law, Sheila Blue, Linda Caise, and Mary
Ellen Weyand; one brother-in-law, Vic Rick; her dear friend, Barb Hladovcak; and many
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Harvey "Babe", Billie, Dan, Walter
"Toad", Dickie, Bob and Randall; a sister, Wanda; and her twin, Violet.
Pallbearers will be John Higgins, David Timmons, Nic Ugolini, Josh Higgins, Patrick Ugolini,
and Jonathon Ugolini.
In her honor, memorials may be directed to the Village of Seneca to be used towards the
baseball/softball field lights or to Packs for Pals.
