Valerie Bohne, 97, of Ottawa, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2025, at Pleasant View Nursing Home.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 8 at Seals-Campbell Funeral Home. Memorial services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Megan Thompson of the Marseilles Methodist Church officiating. The burial will be at the Fairfield Cemetery in Newman, IL at a later date.
Valerie was born July 18, 1927, in Chicago, IL, to Norman and Cecil (Allen) Westfield. In 1953, she married Donald Mason of New Jersey who preceded her death in 1998. Later married Christian A. Bohne, who preceded her in death in 2010.
Valerie Received her Bachelor of Science Degree at the University of Illinois Urbana in 1949 and later studied at the University of Colorado in Denver. Valerie was a Speech and Hearing Pathologist for many years at the Parkside Wolcott and Christa Mcauliffe Elementary schools. She was also involved with the local girl scout group and loved to cook dinners for all of her family.
She was a member of Thornton United Methodist Church in Thornton, IL.
Valerie is survived by two sons, Scott Mason of Thornton, IL and Eric (Evie) Mason of Lowell, IN and Son-in-law David (Judy) Both Seneca, IL., 7 step-children, Bruce (Julie) Bohne, Beth (deceased) Rich Mirock, Brian (Michele) Bohne, Chris (Mary) Bohne, Scott (Marteen) Bohne, Sue (Dave) Tuckey, and Colleen (Dave) Anthony, four grandchildren, Daniel and Dillon Mason, Chad Both, and Christen Snodgrass; six great-grandchildren, Hannah Bradley, Jordyn, Mackinzie, and Rylee Both, Emmalee and Gavin Snodgrass
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Don Mason and Chris Bohne; her daughter, Patricia Ann Both; and her step-daughter, Beth Mirock.
