Obituary

Theresa J. Doran, 95, of Marseilles, formerly of Dolton, IL, passed away Monday, November 26, 2018.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 1, 2018 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Fr. Ghislain Inai officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Seals-Campbell Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Seneca.

She was born June 24, 1923, in Krebs, OK, to Alfonso and Rose (Totts) Petrone and was the last survivor of their ten children.

The family moved to the far south side of Chicago when she was four years old. A graduate of Fenger High School, doing her part in WWII, she worked as a supervisor at International Harvester.  It was during that time when she met a cute sailor, Edward J. Doran, of Chicago, whom she married in 1943. Eddie was the oldest of a family of thirteen and Theresa became very close to them and their spouses. There are many happy memories of large family gatherings where cousins enjoyed time with Aunt Theresa.

Theresa, was a wife, mom, world traveler, and friend of many. She was also a wonderful artist, who designed their home in Dolton where their children were raised. Ed and Theresa had six children whom she loved dearly; daughters, Rose Marie (Robert) Lyons of Glenwood, IL, Michele (Carl) Nesbitt of Colorado Springs, CO, Mary Lou (Tom) Riley of Hazel Crest, IL, and Vanessa (Mike Martinovich) Doran of Ottawa; and two sons, Edward (Rosanna) of Bolingbrook and Brian (Linda) of Lakeland, FL. Ed and Brian, like their dad, made her proud and worried while they also volunteered for military service during wartime. Her pride and concerns for her children and their families has been felt by all. Theresa lived life to the fullest, being loving and wise, always questioning and learning, she was an example of how to make the best choices. She cherished her friends and stayed open to new friends as she grew older.

She had 29 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, and 2 great great- grandchildren.

A gracious lady who knew the importance of laughter and love, she gave this advice to young people who could not believe she was 95 years-old, "Learn to dance". She will be remembered by many.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward in 1997; and her siblings, Carmine, Joseph, John, Mary Ann, Eugene, Gregory, Jeanette, and Gaetano Petrone, and Gabrielle Truffa.

To live in the hearts of those she leaves behind is not to die.
