Roger Lee
Schlickman
Jun 17, 1941 — Aug 13, 2024
Mazon
Roger "Rog" Lee Schlickman, 83, of Mazon, IL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at The Gardens of Park Pointe in Morris.
A celebration of life will be from 4 to 6 pm Friday, August 16, 2024, at Park Street Church in Mazon. A prayer service will be held at 4 pm at the church with Rev. Tyler Carrell officiating. The burial will be in Brookside Cemetery in Mazon at a later date. Seals-Campbell Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
Rog was born on June 17, 1941, in Decatur, IN, to Dorphus and Nellie (McClain) Schlickman. He was the oldest of four children. He loved to tell stories of his family moving to the farm in Decatur, IN, where he adjusted to family living – daily chores, using the outhouse in the dead of winter, and no air conditioning. Indiana is where he fell in love with boating and waterskiing, and where he skied his last run at the age of 79. Little did he know that the lakes he spent time skiing in his youth would be the center of annual family reunions that earned the name "Daniels and Donuts" which continues to this day.
Rog attended Ball State University, graduating with a degree in Education that he turned into a successful career as a teacher, principal, and superintendent. Undoubtedly, the most important thing he took away from Ball State was his bride of almost 60 years, Penny (Stimpert) Jo Schlickman.
After retirement in 1999, Roger's focus turned to creating memories with his family. He and Penny spent many years traveling the world with family and friends. He also attended every youth sporting and school event possible and passed on his love for boating/waterskiing to all his grandchildren, and his pride in his grandchildren was second to none. Although the shared memories became discrete in his final years, those whom he shared them with will never forget.
He is survived by his wife, Penny; their children, Kristi (Steve) McDonald, Kari (Stephen) Buck, Kati (Steven) Sligar, and Kurt (Ellen Mulé) Schlickman; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Rose (Lash) Stevenson, Steven (Kathy) Schlickman, and Sue (Jim) McArdle.
He was proceeded in death by his parents and his son, Terry Alan Schlickman.
