Michael F. Coates, 54, of Genoa, formerly of Marseilles, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2020 at OSF St. Anthony's Medical Center in Rockford.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, January 8, at Seals-Campbell Funeral Home in Marseilles, followed by a celebration of life at 6 p.m.  Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Marseilles at a later date.

Michael was born February 6, 1965 in Ottawa, to Ronald and Betty (Harms) Coates.  In 1991, he married Sandra Macy of Plano, who survives.

He graduated from Northern Illinois University with a degree in Special Education.  He taught in the Ottawa schools, at NIU, and at the Wisconsin School for the Deaf.

Michael is survived by his wife, Sandy; a daughter, Samantha; two grandchildren, Kolton and Nikola; his mother, Betty; one brother, Dennis; two sisters, Linda and Theresa; and his dog, Archer.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ronnie; his sister, Lisa; and two brothers in infancy.

Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association.
