Margaret E. Witte, 99, of Marseilles, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2020 at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, January 6, at Seals-Campbell Funeral Home in Marseilles with Rev. Philip Peterson of Stavanger Lutheran Church and Rev. K. Sung of the Marseilles United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Marseilles.
Margaret was born May 7, 1920 in Marseilles, to Ernest Clyde and Elizabeth Jane (Perkins) Wiley. In 1942, she married Claude Julius Witte of Marseilles, who preceded her in death in 1973.
She was a member of the Home Extension, the first woman on the Milton Pope School Board and served as President and secretary of the Community Club at Milton Pope. She also taught adult Sunday School at the Marseilles United Methodist Church. Margaret was a devoted farmer's daughter and wife on the family farm north of Marseilles. She was looking forward to her 100 th birthday. She enjoyed her last Christmas with her family and many friends.
Margaret is survived by her two daughters, Betty Jo Foutch and Claudette (Norman John) Elzer; and her son, Bill (Carol) Witte, all of Marseilles; seven grandchildren, Dean Foutch, Margie Hudkins, Vicki Elzer, Nanci Blasgen, Kelli Elzer, Janine Williamson, and Michelle Sibbitt; twelve great-grandchildren, Devin, Dawn and Hailey Hudkins, Michael Potts, Mackenzie Foutch, Abby and Faith Elzer, Hadley Williams, Crosby Williamson, and Rylann, Daxton and Quinton Sibbitt.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one sister, Betty Fernow; one grandson, Norman John Elzer II; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Dean Foutch, Jim Fernow, Josh Williamson, Derrick Sibbitt, Mark Blasgen, and Roger Hallowell. Honorary Pallbearers are Jerry Towne, Don Emanuelson, Ron Link, Ed Bouley, Ken Towne, and Devin Hudkins.
Memorials may be given to the Marseilles Nursing Service or the OSF Hospice of Ottawa.
