Kay Frances Engel, 79, of Naplate, formerly of Wadena, MN, went to her heavenly home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, July 14, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday August 23 at the Knights of Columbus in Ottawa. Private burial will be in Ottawa Avenue Cemetery. Seals-Campbell Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
Kay was born on May 21, 1946, in Ottawa, to Walter and Frances (Plate) Watland. On March 5, 1966, she married Nicholas R. Engel. They had four children together.
She was employed by Ottawa Elementary School as a bus driver and custodian until her retirement. She also worked at Koolie's Banquet Hall for many years.
Kay moved to Minnesota where she enjoyed living in the country, watching the wildlife in her backyard, especially deer, bear, sandhill cranes, and turkeys. She loved playing cards and garage sales and would always find treasures for her grandkids.
She is survived by her four children, Kelly (Timothy) Angell of Ottertail MN, Michelle (Shawn) Sauvageau of Naplate, IL, Nicholas (Annette Quinn) Engel of Wadena, MN, and Tricia (Kevin) Mattingly of Ottawa; her bonus children, Scott (Dena) Engel, Anita Engel, and Jake (Nicole) Engel; nine grandchildren, Cassie (Chris) Lee, Andrew Engel, Jake (Tori Dorance) Stillwell, Jordan Sauvageau, Ryan (Jenna) Angell, Brandon (Kyra) Sauvageau, Abbie (Josh Rosales) Engel, Joe Angell, and Leanna Sauvageau; three great-grandchildren, Lilliana Lee, Lincoln Engel, and Ava Stillwell; her former husband, Nicholas; her brother, Randy (Marian) Watland; and her sister-in-law, Grace Watland.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandchild, Payton Elizabeth Engel; her parents; and her siblings, Donald, Walter, Allen, and Rodney Watland, Debbie Morganflash, and Becky Penna.
Honorary pallbearers will be Andrew Engel, Jake Stillwell, Jordan Sauvageau, Ryan Angell, Brandon Sauvageau, and Joe Angell.
