Obituary

John Ivan Verly, 73, of Marseilles, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2023 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Funeral services will be private at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery with military honors. Seals-Campbell Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.

He was born October 31, 1949 in Superior, Wisc. to Eugene and Elizabeth (Woodliff) Verly.

John served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War with the 9 th Infantry Division, 3 rd Battalion. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross and a Purple Heart for his acts of valor in the Republic of Vietnam.

He is survived by his children, John I. Verly, Jr., Eugene (Nicole) Verly, and Tiffany (Arliss O'Neal) Ragan; five grandchildren; two sisters, Judy Anderson and Kathy (Gerd) Vinzenz; four brothers, James Hendrickson, Donald (Mary) Hendrickson, Lance Pickera, and Larry (Lynn) Pickera; two half-sisters, Debbie and Tammy Mattson and two half-brothers, Jim and John Mattson.

He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Verly, his mother, Elizabeth Mattson, and his brother Kenneth Verly.
