Obituary

John William Jay McIntyre, 69, of Marseilles, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 2, 2023, at his home.

At John's request, no services will take place. After cremation, the interment of ashes will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Seneca, next to his wife, Mary.

He was born on November 2, 1953, in Ottawa, IL, to John and Nellie (Sluder) McIntyre.  In 1999, he married Mary Bennett of Seneca, who preceded her in death in 2017.

John worked in the industrial field until his retirement. After retirement, he adopted Shih-Tzu pups. He especially enjoyed his walks with them in the neighborhood. John was known to keep treats in his pockets for the other neighborhood dogs, and he made several stops along his journey. His dog, Vegas, stayed by his side until his passing.

From a young age, John enjoyed sports. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. When family and friends reflect on John's life, they will forever remember his sense of humor. For every occasion, he came prepared with a joke. Inside his neighborhood, he created a close-knit community of caring friends, who shared meals, baked goods, and football games with him. Because of this, he will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his son, Jayson McIntyre; his stepdaughter, Shelly Gonzales of IL; three sisters, Theresa (Paul) Lay, Sandi (Larry) Martin, and Cindy (Jim) McIntyre-Tucker, all of MO; and a host of other friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary; and his stepdaughter, Susie Armstrong.

Memorials may be directed Lightways Hospice or any animal rescue or shelter in his honor.
