Obituary

John Henry Hickey, 70, of Marseilles, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving companion of 25 years, Deborah Deskin, and his loved ones.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, July 1 at Seals-Campbell Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Duane Kaufman officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Nichol Cemetery.

He was born September 24, 1950, in Ottawa, to John T. and Carol (Swinehart) Hickey.

John served in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1972 during the Vietnam War. He worked at the Marseilles School District in the maintenance department where he enjoyed working with the many people he came in contact with through the years. The thing he loved the most was working with his hands in the carpentry business building homes. He was a member of the Laborer's Local working at the LaSalle Nuclear Plant.

He is survived by his love, Deborah Deskin; a daughter, Jayme (Curt) Gretencord of Ottawa; a son, Sean Hickey of Marseilles; two grandchildren, Lindsay (CJ) Lyon and Connor; three great-grandchildren, Payton, Ryleigh, and McKenna; one sister, Carol (Dale) Grieves of Marseilles; four brothers, Ronald (Diana) Hickey of Ottawa, Donald (Cindy) Hickey of Oglesby, Joseph (Becca) Hickey of Missouri, and James (Cindy) Hickey of Streator; and a sister-in-law, Kathy Schlingman from FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Amber Hickey; a great-granddaughter, Ellah; and a nephew, Joseph Nelle.

Memorials may be directed to Pet Project.

Pallbearers will be Jim Hickey, Curt Gretencord, Art Cook, Jeff Heinz, Connor Hickey, and Ryan Nelle.
