James Phillip Young, 83, of Marseilles, passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2024, in Sarasota, Florida.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at Seals-Campbell Funeral Home in Marseilles. Funeral services will follow at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Rev. Duane Kaufman officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Marseilles.

Phil was born on August 22, 1940, in Louisville, KY, to James Holland and Cleo (Tuell) Young. During his youth, he was raised in Coburg, KY. On August 23, 1959, he married Rhoda Cunningham of Marseilles who preceded him in death in 2009.

He was employed by Caterpillar until his retirement. Rhoda and James enjoyed living in Sarasota as "snowbirds". He was an avid sports fan, especially rooting for the Kentucky Wildcats in basketball and the Boston Red Sox baseball team. He also enjoyed horses and dogs. His grandkids and great-grandkids sports were also very important to him.

Phil is survived by his children, Renee Hetelle, Lauri (Brian) Halm, and James "Rocky" Jr. (Nickie) Young; his five grandchildren, Christopher Halm, Jennifer Schutté, Michael Hetelle, and Ashley and Trenton Young; his six great-grandchildren, Kayden, Kole, and Keenan Hetelle, and Nolan, Scarlett, and Adalynn Halm; and one sister, Madonna Cox.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rhoda; one brother, Paul, and one son-in-law, Gary.
