Obituary

James "Jim" Edward Winders, age 84, of Cameron, TX went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 15, 2024, with his loving family by his side. Jim was born to Leslie Winders and Virginia Cowell on June 7, 1940, in Marseilles, IL.

Jim grew up in Marseilles where he attended and eventually graduated from Marseilles High School. At the age of 17, Jim joined the United States Army right after high school and proudly served his country from 1957 to 1960. Jim was a Vietnam Era Veteran and was also stationed in Okinawa, Japan where he continued to serve and protect our country. He met the love of his life, Valerie Levi, and they were married in Marseilles at the United Methodist Church. The two had been married 63 wonderful years before Jim's passing.

After being honorably discharged they started their life together. Jim worked as a carpenter for many years, building and remodeling all sorts of things. The couple would eventually settle down in Cameron, TX, where they would spend the last 40 years together, being a family and raising their loving children. They were members of the First Methodist Church of Cameron and were devote members of the church family.

Jim and Valerie were parents to a son, James, and three daughters Andrea, Brandi, and Michelle. Jim loved his family more than anything in this world and he would do anything for them. Jim enjoyed spending his time in the great outdoors, building masterpieces, fishing, duck hunting, deer hunting, and playing golf with his buddies. Jim's loyalty to his family and his hard work ethic will be the everlasting memory cherished by all who knew and loved him.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Virginia Winders; his daughter, Michelle Winders; and two brothers.

Jim leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Valerie Winders of Cameron; his son, James (Alice) Winders of Belton, his daughters, Andrea Winders of Belton and Brandi (Adam) Sorey of Belton; his sister, Elaine (Chuck) Rexroat of Marseilles; seven grandchildren, Josh, Garrett, Walker, Kaitlin, Robert, Victoria, and Colin; and four great-grandchildren, Gavin, Gage, Rylee, and Logan.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 21, 2024 in Riverview Cemetery in Marseilles. A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. at Illini State Park.
