James Kenneth Hill, 74, of Sunrise Beach, MO, formerly of Ottawa, passed away April 3, 2022 at Truman VA Hospital in Columbia, MO

Funeral services will be private. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Marseilles, IL with military honors. Seals-Campbell Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.

He was born on October 10, 1947, in Camp Carson, CO to Kenneth E. and Mary (Engel) Hill.

He attended Ottawa High School and graduated from Kaiserslautern American High School, in Germany in 1965. He received a Bachelor's degree from Western Illinois University.

Born into a military family, he continued the career tradition with the US Army until his retirement as First Sergeant in 1990. He served three tours of duty in Vietnam and was later stationed in Germany. After retirement he worked for the Illinois State Park system before returning to work for the US Army as a civilian.

He is survived by his widow, Ruth (Orvis) Hill; his daughters, Beth Hoke, Mary (Gil) Roth, and Theresa Bishop; his son, John Hill (Megan Schaffner); six granddaughters, whom he called a "giggle of girls,"; two great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mary Royce, Linda Andriotis, June Steder, Stephanie Thompson and Karen Shroyer; a brother, Daniel Hill; two step-sisters, Pauline Vicich and Beverly Harris; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Steve Nanouski; his sons, Josef and Daniel Hill; his sister, Diana Boaz; a brother, John Bruce Hill; and a step-brother, Glenn Nanouski.

He loved to study the Bible and to tell people "God bless you real good!"
