George A. Nelson, 70, of Marseilles, passed away Friday, December 28, 2018 at his home with his wife at his side.

There will be a private family service following cremation. Seals-Campbell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born December 31, 1947 in Alton, IL to George E. and Mildred (Kassing) Nelson. On December 24, 1967 he married Tara Ballard in Bethalto, IL.

George graduated from Civic Memorial High School in Bethalto, IL in 1966. He served in the United States Air Force from 1967 to 1971. George was employed by Nabisco Paper Company, Borg Warner, GE Plastics, and Sabic until his retirement in 2009.

He is survived by his wife, Tara; two sons, Gregory (Amy) Nelson of Stephens, AR and Bryan (Tiffany) Nelson of Burlington, IA; four Grandchildren, Gabrielle, Bryce, Blake and Bodhi; his mother, Mildred Bohnenstiehl of East Alton, IL; one sister, Carol Hallows of Bunker Hill, IL; two sisters-in-law, Pam (Jerry) Gordon of Alton, IL and Karen (Mike) Trimm of Bethalto, IL; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

George was preceded in death by his father, George E.; his mother-in-law and father-in-law; and one nephew.

Memorials may be given to Vitas Hospice for their wonderful care.
