George T. "Bud" Hougas, 96, of Marseilles, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Pleasant View Luther Home.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 21, at Seals-Campbell Funeral Home in Marseilles with Rev. Kihwan Choi of the Marseilles United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Marseilles with military honors.

Bud was born April 6, 1921 in Marseilles, to Merle and Esther (Carlson) Hougas. On November 4, 1945, he married Margaret E. "Peg" Parr who preceded him in death in 1989.
He was a member of the Marseilles United Methodist Church, the Marseilles American Legion Post 235, Marseilles VFW Post 5506, and was a lifetime member of Prairie Lakes Golf Course. He served in the Army during WWII in the 745th Tank BN of the 1st Infantry (Big Red 1) in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was employed by Nabisco until his retirement.

Bud is survived by his five children, JoEllen McCue of Glen Ellyn, Kent (Laura) and Wilbur Craig (Cindy) Hougas, both of Marseilles, Marcia (Ken) Shepherd of Wilton, Iowa, and Robert (Deb) Hougas of Ottawa; 11 grandchildren, Debbi (Ryan) Kelly, Sarah (Steve) Scudder, Adam (Terri) McCue, Dawn Trompeter, Brad Hougas, Kimberly Cummings, Kevin (Cara) Cummings, Amy (Ed) Stumpf, Robbie Hougas, Tony (Bridgett) Hougas, and Allie (Charlie) Rohrer; 26 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Hougas Anderson; a nephew, Richard Anderson; a niece, Karen Shehorn; and his longtime companion, Alice Rickelm.

Memorials may be given to the Marseilles United Methodist Church or Pleasant View Luther Home.

His grandsons will be pallbearers.
