Ernest Harold Peters, 77, of rural Seneca, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2023 at his home.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 29 at Community of Christ Church. Funeral services will follow at the church at 11 a.m. with Arlene Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Section Cemetery with military honors. Seals-Campbell Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
Ernie was born November 18, 1945, in Ottawa, to Howard and Annie (Zsizsik) Peters. On August 2, 1975, he married Mary McLennan of Seneca who survives.
Ernie served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. After his military service, he graduated from Illinois State University. He worked as a grain merchandiser and commodities broker. Later, he was employed by the IL Department of Corrections as a business manager until his retirement. During his retirement, he managed the Ottawa Barge Terminal for ten years. Ernie enjoyed fishing, traveling, working on his tractors and cars, and his horses.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; his children, Ann (Michael Clement) Peters and John (Kelsey) Peters; six grandchildren, Elle, Charlotte, and Vivienne Peters, Mary, Rose, and Frankie Peters Clement; his siblings, Pearl Patarozzi, Jerry Peters, and Jean (Bob) Stubblefield.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John Peters.
