Obituary

Elsie Mae Caldwell, 89, of Marseilles, passed peacefully on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at Ottawa Pavilion.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, January 20 at Seals-Campbell Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 11 am at the funeral home with Pastor Brian Hefner of the First Church of God officiating.

She was born February 24, 1934, in Marseilles to Sam and Mary (Berutti) Mason. In 1955, she married William Caldwell of Ottawa who preceded her in death in 1999.

Elsie was a member of the Marseilles First Church of God and the Illinois Nurses Association. She was a nurse and worked at Ryburn King Hospital, Ottawa General Hospital, Community Hospital of Ottawa, the Marseilles Nursing Service, and the Osteopathic Clinic in Marseilles.

She is survived by her son, Kent (Karen) Caldwell of Marseilles; a son-in-law, Larry Higdon of Seneca; four grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, JoAnn Mason of Ottawa; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Debi Higdon; three sisters, Jean Ann Keroson, Mary Eye, and Dorothy Sherman; and three brothers, Sammy, Johnny, and George Mason.
