Maryville
Elizabeth Katherine Cox Trater, 97, of Maryville, TN, formerly of Marseilles passed away July 5, 2021 after a short illness.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 24 at Riverview Cemetery with Rev. Troy Tvrdik of the First Baptist Church officiating. She will be buried next to her father.
Elizabeth was born on March 1, 1924, in Marseilles, to Joseph and Desolina (Miglio) Pomatto. In 1943, she married Luther H. Cox of Marseilles. Her and Luther lived in Marseilles for 53 years, except for the 3 years they were in Idaho during WWII, where he served in the Army Air Corps. In 1978, Elizabeth married Lester Trater and they lived in Lemont, IL who preceded her in death.
Elizabeth loved baking, gardening, ballroom dancing, movies, and reading. After becoming a widow, she took vacations with her granddaughter Kimberly to Aruba, Quebec City, and Hilton Head. The trip that she talked about until her death, was a trip to Italy when she was 80 with her son, daughter in law, and granddaughter to visit the village in the Piedmonstese area of Northwest Italy in the Alps where her parents were from. She was able to stay in her own home until the week before she died. Elizabeth was baptized at the age of 92 and was a member of Maryville Church of Christ.
She is survived by her son, Gary L. Cox and daughter-in-law, Sharon Tedford of Townsend, TN; her granddaughter, Kimberly (Ralph) Brown of Sadieville, KY; 3 great-grandchildren, Mitchell Brown of Sadieville, KY, Cody (Shannon) Brown of Luther, OK, and Morgan (Ryan) Bahney of Athens, AL; and one great-great-grandson, Graison Brown of Athens, AL.
In Lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to Steppingstone Pre-School in Maryville, TN.
