Dorothy "Jean"
Anderson
Oct 6, 1934 — Dec 17, 2024
Peoria
Dorothy "Jean" Anderson, 90, of Peoria, formerly of Marseilles, passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 28 at Seals-Campbell Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Marseilles. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Ottawa.
She was born on October 6, 1934, to Joseph and Mary (Levstik) Spreitzer in Rockdale, IL. On June 2, 1956, Jean married James W. Anderson at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rockdale, IL who preceded her in death on November 21, 1989.
Jean was a long-time member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Marseilles, IL, and her Catholic faith was important to her throughout her life. She graduated from Joliet Township High School and then worked at Prudential Insurance Company in Joliet and Ottawa.
Jean prided herself on her homemaking skills and was a world-class ironer. She was a great cook and baker and passed down recipes from her parents' homeland (Slovenia). She was a huge help to her daughters-in-law whenever she came to visit. Her specialties were helping with housework and wrangling grandkids. She was an avid reader and loved reading to her grandchildren who knew her as "Grandma A." and "Gam Gam." She was a highly competitive player of cards and of all types of games and wouldn't tolerate cheating or rule-breaking for a second! She enjoyed cheering on the Chicago Cubs and Bears and listening to music from the 40s and 50s, and she passed these interests on to her kids and grandkids. When her boys were growing up, she was an active member of the Washington Elementary School PTA and made food for church bazaars. She loved meeting with her weekly coffee "clutch" every Wednesday for over 50 years. She was always very sociable and so enjoyed opportunities to chat with friends and to connect with family members near and far. Her family was truly her pride and joy.
Jean is survived by her four sons, James A. (Deb) Anderson, Paul (Barb Krug) Anderson, Scott (Rhonda) Anderson, and Ken (Eva) Anderson; twelve grandchildren, Keri (Nicholas Cream) Anderson, James H. "Andy" Anderson, Jeffrey (Tiffany Engel) Anderson, Jasmine Anderson, Shea (Ryane) Anderson, Ashley (Zach) Reardon, Rebecca (Steven) Fitzpatrick, Matthew (Emily) Anderson, Lucas (Hannah) Anderson, Marcus Anderson, Bryce Anderson, and Madison Anderson; seven great-grandchildren, Liam Anderson-Jones, Freya Fitzpatrick, Beckett Anderson, Huxson Anderson, Oliver Anderson, Liam Anderson, and Annie Anderson; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, James, and nine brothers and sisters, Mary (Tony) Smolich, Elizabeth (Joe) Rudman, Theresa (Nick) Rudman, Margaret (Joe) Bregar, Ann (Eugene) Washer, Frances (Tony) Panian, Bernice (Frank) Raspolich, Joseph (Edna) Spreitzer, and Edward (Jackie) Spreitzer.
The family requests that donations in Jean's honor be made to Buehler Home in Peoria for their Phoebe Potthoff Fund or to St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Marseilles.
