Obituary

Doris T. Madaus, 98, of Marseilles, passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2021 in Fayette, Missouri.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 6 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Marseilles with Rev. David Edward Daniel of Zion Lutheran Church of Ottawa officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Seals-Campbell Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

She was born April 11, 1923, in Ottawa, to John and Chestina (Trumbo) Matlock. On April 25, 1942, she married John W. Madaus Sr. of Marseilles, who preceded her in death in 1995.

Doris was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Marseilles. She volunteered many years at Ottawa Community Hospital with over 9,000 hours donated. She was very proud of her service there. She also worked nearly twenty years at Dr. Clark and Dr. Sutton's office.

She was always bragging about her eight great great-grandchildren with her last crochet project of Eeyore and Tigger for them. She enjoyed knitting and her last project was for her granddaughter, Lori, but was not fully completed. Doris held church and her family above all else. Whenever someone went on a trip, she would say, "May the angels of the Lord ride on your fenders." Some of us would roll our eyes at that, but now we ask, "May the angles of the Lord carry her home."

She is survived by her children, John W. Madaus Jr. and Diane M. (Gary) Nolan; four grandchildren, Sheila Gentry, Lori (Curt Hale) Madaus Cummings, Dawn (Mark) Nolan Thomas, and Gary (Lisa) Nolan Jr.; her former grandchildren-in-law, Raymond Young, Stephen Guese, and Kelli Campbell; nine great-grandchildren, Megan (Andrew Weaver) Guese, Adam, Daniel (Megan), Erin Young, Jake (Jessica) Thomas, Baleigh Denbo, Kyler (Chelsie), Alek and Shelby Pellino; and seven great great-grandchildren, Sylvia and Mace Weaver, Logan, Lane, Audbry, and Abram Young, Harper Pellino, and Easton Thomas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; a brother, Jack Matlock; a sister Roberta Cooper; her grandson, Johnny Madaus III; and her daughter-in-law, Kay Madaus.

Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church in Marseilles.

Pallbearers will be Gary Nolan Jr., Jake Thomas, Kyler, Shelby, and Alek Pellino, Tim Smith, and Matt Massey. Honorary pallbearers will be Curt Hale, Mark Thomas, Andrew Weaver, and Dave Sommer.
