Denise Marie
Medler
Sep 2, 1952 — Sep 10, 2021
Marseilles
Denise Marie Medler, 69, of Marseilles, passed away September 10, 2021, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria with family at her bedside.
A memorial mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 18, 2021, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Marseilles with Father Alexander Millar officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the mass at the church. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Denise was born September 2, 1952, in Ottawa, to Richard and Angeline (Bergera) Rhines, and attended Marseilles public schools with her younger sister Renee. She especially treasured annual family summer vacations to Grand Rapids, Minnesota with her parents and grandparents, where she developed a lifelong passion for fishing and spending time on the lake. On March 3, 1973, she married William Medler of Marseilles and together made their home in Marseilles where they lovingly raised two sons.
Denise was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Marseilles and was a founding member of the Marseilles Area Ambulance Board of Directors. She was employed by the Marseilles School District for 28 years until her retirement. She remained an avid fisherwoman, continuing the family tradition of summer vacations in northern Minnesota and cherished many additional fishing trips to Olney, Illinois. She often spoke fondly of her many travels to Mexico, Oregon, Arizona, and Florida. She had a persistent curiosity and was always keen to try new food and drink. Card games and shopping with family and friends were favorite pastimes.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Bill; her two sons, Eric (Rhonda Fox) Medler of Marseilles and Terry (Lance Moen) Medler of Portland, OR; her granddaughter, Chloe Medler; her niece, Amy (Chris) Arnold; and her brother-in-law, Tom Adler.
Her parents and her beloved sister, Renee B. Adler, preceded her in death.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
