Clarence E. Benson, 73, of Marseilles, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at The Pavilion of Ottawa.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Seals-Campbell Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements and cremation rites.

He was born on March 2, 1952, in Ottawa, to Clarence and Marcella (Arrowsmith) Benson. On July 22, 1972, he married Janet Smith who preceded him in death in 2022.

Clarence was employed by Sheridan Correctional Center until his retirement. He and Janet owned and operated PJ's in Marseilles for 38 years.

He is survived by his two sons, Chris (Kari) Benson of Paw Paw and Carl Benson of Marseilles; seven grandchildren, Samuel, Ella, Abby, Christopher, Ruthie, Carl, Jr., and Caitlyn Benson; and three sisters, Rosie Benson, Eddie O'Mara, and Donna O'Mara.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janet; and his brother, Edward Benson.
