Obituary

Charles "Buddy" Youmans, Jr., died at home in Chicago with his wife Susan at his side on July 24, 2022, after a long illness.

Charles was born on May 27, 1943, in Marseilles IL to Evelyn (Long) and Charles Edwin Youmans, the second of three children. He is survived by his sister, Donna (Patton) and brother Walter.

A dedicated member of the Chicago theater community for decades, including 30 years as house manager at Lyric Opera, Charles launched his theater training locally at the Valley Circle Theater. Reflecting his degrees in drama and theater management, Charles was known for his capable management style and, during his six years as house manager, the Chicago Shubert Theatre team became a benchmark for Shubert efficiency. Charles also served on the administrative team of the British American Drama Academy's Midsummer at Oxford programs at Balliol College, Oxford. Charles was loved for his winning smile and ability to hold listeners spellbound with his repertoire of stories.

A celebration of Charles' life will be hosted by Robert Matlock (partner of his late niece, Joan) and Melissa Paulsen (Joan's daughter) on Sunday, September 11, at 1 p.m. at 3509 East 29 th Road in Seneca IL.

Charles is survived by his wife, Susan, and many fond nieces, nephews, cousins, fans, and friends.
