Chuck was born June 19, 1933 in Lexington, IL to Charles E. "Boots" and Ada (Smith) Nicholson. On July 8, 1955, he married Marilyn Morello of Marseilles, who survives.
He was a 1951 graduate of Marseilles High School. He went to work at Caterpillar in Joliet and then, before he could be drafted, he joined the Marine Corp in 1953. He served during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan. While in Japan, he climbed Mount Fujiyama and Mount Suribachi and was proud to see the monument of the flag raising of the fallen soldiers. Chuck was a member of the Marseilles VFW Post 5506.
He worked for Caterpillar for 32 years, of which 17 years were as manufacturing supervisor, until his retirement in 1984 at age 51. After his retirement, Chuck and Marilyn spent many years in Tomahawk, WI where they had many visits with family and friends, enjoying all the outdoor activities. There they made many lasting friendships with neighbors and local residents. Chuck was an avid fisherman, hunter, and gardener but fishing was always number one.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marilyn; two daughters, Renae Bute (Jay) Winner of Seneca and Vicki Nicholson (Mike Chase) of Marseilles; four grandchildren, Ryan Bute, Jason Beldon, Jessica (Dale) McInerney, and Crystal (Sean) Aukland; great-grandchildren, Blake, Bella, and Elleigh Bute, Savannah Beldon, and Rayce, Riley and Haley Aukland; two sisters, Audrey (Milton) Hallett of Arizona, Pamela (John) Verona of Moline; a sister-in-law, Melma Nicholson of California; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Robert, Darrell (Carol), and Dennis (Ellen) Nicholson; and three nephews, Brian and Jay Nicholson and Derrick Verona.
Memorials may be given to the Marseilles Nursing Service or the donor's choice.
