Charles Edward "Eddie" Scarber, 62, of Ottawa, was called home to be with his Lord on Saturday, April 29, 2023. He passed away at his home after a courageous battle with glioblastoma, surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 7 at Seals-Campbell Funeral Home in Marseilles with Reverend Duane Kaufman officiating. Visitation will be from 12 to 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Funeral Home.
He was born on October 5, 1960, in Ottawa, IL, the son of Chris and Gary Boaz. On February 2, 1980 he married Gina McLennan of Marseilles, who survives.
Eddie was a student of the Shepherds Chapel. He was a graduate of Marseilles High School. Eddie's employment began at an early age working at the theater and Citgo gas station, later becoming a member of Local 393 for over 35 years. During this time, he and his wife built and sold two houses, owned and operated the video store, and bait shop, all in Marseilles. After retiring, he enjoyed helping his friends at JR Auto. Eddie loved music, especially John Prine. He was available to help anyone who needed anything at any time.
He is survived by his wife of 43 Groundhog days, Gina; his three best friends, Chumly, Pete, and Boomer; his three brothers, Mike (Cheryl) Scarber of Shell Knob, MO, Tom (Jana) Scarber of Paducah, KY, and Kurt (Nyckkie) Boaz of Marseilles; two sisters-in-law, Christie Janes of Twenty-nine Palms, CA and Shawna (Mark) Kahn of New Milford, IL; and many nieces and nephews, including TJ and Corina Scarber, and Trey and Lenny Janes.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Doris Sylvester; three nephews, Ryan and Anthony Scarber, and Wyatt Kirby; his sister-in-law, Janet Scarber; and one brother-in-law, Robert Janes.
Memorials may be directed to the animal shelter of the donor's choice.
