Carol Campbell Lay, a resident of Marseilles, IL, passed away peacefully at 87 years old at the Rock River Hospice & Home, Sterling, IL on January 27, 2024 at 5:28 p.m. CST.

She was born to Frank William Campbell and Grace Laura Matteson on January 26, 1937 in Evanston, IL.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Grace Campbell; her sister, Lynne Campbell; and grandson, Grant Davis Lipshaw.

She is survived by her children, Susan Lemar and husband Ed (Arkansas), Renee Kuprianczyk and husband Peter (Colorado), Linda Lipshaw (Florida), Scott Schmidt and Donna (Illinois); grandchildren, Lauren Lipshaw Drake (Florida), Craig Kuprianczyk and wife Julie (Wisconsin), Caryn Kuprianczyk (California); and great-grandchildren, Kit Kuprianczyk, Guy Kuprianczyk and Jackson Drake.

Carol grew up in Laguna Beach, CA.  She was a "Free Spirit" running through the hills of Laguna and body surfing at Victoria Beach. Her friends nicknamed her "Soupy" referencing her last name to Campbell's soup.

She graduated from San Marino – South Pasadena High School, CA (1955), attended Millikin University (1955) in Decatur, IL and National College of Education (1957) Evanston, IL.

She was a talented artist and after raising her four children she entered the dental industry and finished her career in designer jewelry sales in Chicago. In her retirement, she was able to foster her greatest passion, genealogy.
