Seneca
Bethyl Johnson, 93, of Seneca, passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at Parke Point Gardens in Morris.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, November 28, 2022, at the First United Methodist Church in Seneca. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m., Monday at the church with Rev. Megan Thompson and Pastor Philip Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Marseilles.
She was born on September 1, 1929, to Willard and Frances (Moore) Wiley in Marseilles, where she grew to adulthood. She was a 1947 graduate of Marseilles High School.
In 1949, she married Donald Johnson of Morris, and the couple remained in Morris until beginning their farming career shortly thereafter. In 1960, they settled on their Nettle Creek Township farm where they remained for life.
She was a lifelong and active member of the First Methodist United Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years in Morris and Seneca. In addition to farming activities, Bethyl worked many years driving buses for local schools. In retirement, she and Don volunteered to drive for the Morris Hospital Transportation Service. She also served as township secretary, election judge, and 4-H Leader. Her life pursuits included sewing, baking, camping, bowling, and she enjoyed Chicago Cubs baseball.
She is survived by her son, Dale (Peggy) Johnson; grandchildren, Sam Johnson and Annie (Andy) DuVoisin; and son, Brian (JoEllyn) Johnson and their children, Tom (Robyn) Wills, Tim (Ashley) Wills, and Travis (Molly) Wills; and Joy Amonson.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Don; a son, Willard Johnson; and a brother, Marlyn of Marseilles.
Bethyl was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. Each life she touched in these roles she made better. May God bless her.
Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church in Seneca or Lightways Hospice of Joliet.
Pallbearers will be Dale, Brian, and Sam Johnson; Annie DuVoisin, Julian Huston, and Delbert Fisk.
