Beryl "Buck" Whelchel, 88, of Rutland Township, passed away December, 16, 2020 at his home surrounded by family.
Visitation with social distancing will be held Friday, December 18, 2020 from 9-11 a.m. at the Parkview Baptist Church in Marseilles. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church with Rev. John Patterson officiating. Military honors will be after services at the church. Seals-Campbell Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
He was born on July 5, 1932, in St. Charles, to Joseph and Zella (Ottinger) Whelchel. In 1953, he married Shirley Yates of Naperville, who preceded him in death in 2015.
Buck served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952-1954 as a Tank Commander. He was a member of the Korean Veteran's Association and the Marseilles American Legion Post #235. Buck was an active member of the Parkview Baptist Church in Marseilles for the past forty years. He was a past Worshipful Master of the Marseilles Masonic Lodge #417 A.M.& A.F. and a Shriner. He was employed by Quantum Research in Morris, IL until his retirement.
He is survived by his two sons, Kevin (Cheryl) of Braceville and Kirk (Lori) of Marseilles; four grandchildren, Matthew, Christopher, Philip, and Stephen; and twelve great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley of sixty-two years; one grandson, Kevin Whelchel Jr; three brothers; and three sisters.
Memorials may be directed to Parkview Baptist Church of Marseilles.
