Russell B. Tate, 74, of Marseilles, passed away Tuesday March 13, 2012 at Ottawa Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 17 at Seals-Campbell Funeral Home in Marseilles with Rev. John Patterson of Parkview Baptist Church and Rev. Duane Kaufman officiating. Military honors will be by the Marseilles Honor Guard. Burial will be in Restland Memorial Cemetery in Mendota. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
He was born July 25, 1937 in Albany, New York. His father was Rodney Tate and he was raised by his grandmother, Pansey Tate. In 1988, he married Wilma Wood of Mendota.
He attended Parkview Baptist Church in Marseilles. Russell served in the Air Force in Korea and was a member of the V.F.W. Post 5506. He was a member of the Marseilles Zoning Board, and had owned and operated Fairway Auto and Towing.
Russ is survived by his wife, Wilma; four daughters, Lori Moody of Marseilles, LaVonna Nyret of Kewanee, Connie Rose of Vacaville, Cal. and Peggy (Roy) McPherson of Sarasota, Fla.; four sons, Bob Tate, Cory (Amy) Tate, John (Kim) Tate and Robert (Kim) Rose, all of Marseilles; fifteen grandchildren; nine great- grandchildren; one sister, Anna Barile of Marseilles and his very special friend, Sherry Rich. He will be missed by his faithful companion, Razor.
He was preceded in death by three sons, Thomas, Rusty and Ronald Tate; one sister, Cledis Tate and one brother, Robert Tate.
Pallbearers will be Brad Oakes, Jason Dick, Terry Stanek, Pete Witkowski, Jeff Heintz and Steve Moody.
