Edward F. Coates, Jr., 87, of Marseilles, passed away Tuesday March 6, 2012 at Rivershores Care Center.

Funeral services will be private. There will be no visitation.

Ed was born September 17, 1924 in Marseilles to Edward “Bud” and Lillian (Lettsome) Coates. In 1946, he married Elizabeth Moore of Marseilles who preceded him in death in 1993. Then in 2000 he married Colleen Alvarado who preceded him in death in 2006.

Ed served in the Army and was a member of the Marseilles Masonic Lodge # 417 A.F. & A.M. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local # 150 for over 40 years.

He is survived by two sons, Edward III (Jo Ann Gryder) of Plano and Dan (Sue) of LeRoy; one son-in-law, Art Jaffe of Portland, OR; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wives and a daughter Elizabeth Elaine Jaffe.
